Got a new little buddy Fuji X10! After waiting for a while for a powerful compact camera, I can say that my waiting is over. Size does matter, and after all, the best camera is the one with you. We had my parents visiting for a couple of weeks, and we went to Alaska on a cruise. It was foggy and raining for the most part, but Alaska is surely one of a kind! Last week, I drove my longest miles and released my hardest shutters to honor my friend Denny, and to hug his wife and three children. It was heartbreaking. To Cathedral Park we went, it was an awesome day; authentic Portland's early autumn weather, with the leaves on their peak red and yellow - some of them laying down crispy just to decorate our paths.

This past weekend I contributed my Saturday to document the annual Kids Summer Festival - a summer day full of free games, activities, food, live music, movie night, and most importantly, school supplies for kids in need in the neighborhood. It's a collaboration between 5 different churches with Montavilla Neighborhood Association and Portland Parks & Recreation.

For AdiS Photo, this is a part of giving back to the local community. Yes, I had to say "I'm booked" to 3 couples, but that whole day was a total fun!

Oregon stole Californian sun for this whole weekend, and I maxed it while it's still around to photograph 2 freshly engaged couples. Check out more engagement pics!
Ronak had done some research for a spot to propose his woman and waited for a year for the right moment. He called me last week, and then finally flew Jaanki from Houston-TX to Florence-OR, asked her to marry him, and got a "yes" at Heceta Head Lighthouse.

Ginger and Chris won my engagement session prize during the bridal show at the Heathman Hotel. And I'm glad they did, coz I really enjoyed the session with them!

Last week we had a short vacation to California visiting Ingrid's newborn nephew. We bought airplane tickets for 3 days before until 3 days after the due date, but the little guy came out a week early. So we had time to cruise around, from the desert of Death Valley to the beach of La Jolla.

This Sunday will be 100 days after a friend of mine, Anto, went home to heaven. He had always been a positive and encouraging person, who had a heart to invest in the lives of others around him, especially young people. The last time I gave up on teaching photography, he out-of-nowhere emailed me of how he loved to see the way I touched young people through photography. And the last moment I saw him in hospital, he still celebrated with me for my new house. Many remember and celebrate his life. Thank you, my friend! Rest in peace...

This holiday season we got a surprise visit from Ingrid's parents, yet we evened them up with a surprise pick up at LAX (thanks to sis for the info) with Ingrid's tiramisu for her dad's 70th. Hung out there for the weekend, and then brought them up to the NW for a week. Yes, they filled up our kitchen cabinets with Indonesian snacks.

Ingrid's Birthday Hiking

Last Tuesday I took Ingrid hiking on Mount St. Helens for her birthday. We went the South route; had a brunch at Rosie's, and then Ape Cave and Windy Ridge. We experienced some nasty rain and wind, but still made it to the top. I tried to shoot some, got my D700 and 28 wet naked, hopefully they're really waterproof.

Suki, a hand therapist, and Roger, a sculptor, proofed they have some hip and foot moves too! They got married at Copper Creek Inn, by the Mt. After the session, we hung out with their family for a home-made home-grown-cherry pie and coffee, talking and laughing about first time driving stories! Their wedding is coming up in a month...

Ooh... aah... and ouch!

Yesterday I upgraded my gear line with 105mm macro, pretty sweet. Later in the day though, I accidentally dropped my bag, hitting the street curb right where I keep my 85. Broken glasses, I thought it was over! Got it checked by Associated Camera Repair on NE Sandy at 36th this morning, they did great and fast job. Thank God it's only the filter, Nikon really built this one like a tank! Now I'm good to go for Michelle and Chris engagement session tonight!

The ouch!

Ok... it's Friday 10 am. I somehow dropped my camera, again, with the 50 on, during the engagement session. This time naked, hitting the gravel! Thank God, again, they looked just fine. So right after I arrived in office, I tested them hard, shooting some stuffs. And they are... fine.

Lessons learned:
1. Nikon pro cameras and lenses are built like a tank.
2. Put filter on your lenses!
3. Caffeine doesn't replace sleep - sleep well and drink just enough caffeine.
4. God is good.

Greezel and Hendra was the shiest couple I've taken picture of, yet we ended up spending almost three hours cruising different parts of P-Town for their Promise (not engaged yet?!) portraiture. Thanks for the fun time and the refreshing iced latte!

I took baby Hannah 1-month-old portraits with Chris and Jaclyn at their home. My strobes were a bit hot for the baby; we kept going back and forth, went away from and came back to the posing spot. Next time she will recognize me more and we will be friends :) Thanks for the bulgogi dinner, guys!

I forced myself to shoot some sports again during my recovery process. It was the 2A State Quarter Final; Stanfield at PCS Royals. It was tight at 4-4 until the 5th inning, but then a serial run and a home run gave the host a 14-4 win in the hot 92F sunny day!

Hannah First 48

On May 7, 2009, my friends Chris and Jaclyn were blessed with their first born, Hannah Chrislyn Sabandar. We tried to document Hannah's birth and her first 48 hours, but after waiting for 12 hours, she came out late night while I wasn't around.
She was born 7.15 pounds and 20.5 inches at St. Vincent. I came back the next day though. A cute yet strong baby girl :) Chris said she will play soccer for UP as she'd been kicking hard in the womb. Congrats Chris & Jaclyn!

Compassion Montavilla

Last Saturday morning I volunteered a couple hours at the Compassion Montavilla. Doctors, nurses, chiropractors, dentists, and others from churches in the neighborhood, young and old, worked together to give back to the community. It was much needed as I saw many people took the advantage on the free medical services.

My Dream to Walk

For the past 18 months I've been documenting my friend Jeremy Pitoy on his journey fighting the spinal cord injury he got from a car accident, to walk again. It's been a rewarding experience for me; it upgrades the way I view life, faith and hope.
The clip was shot last year. Thanks to Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital and Oregon City Blessing Church.

Last Monday I revisited Jeremy at Adapt, witnessed and photographed him exercising with 5lbs weight on each arm, making his steps on walker, and even crawling. He's getting there!!!

New Season

It's a new season, it's a new day! Today is my first day working in my new office downtown. I'm super excited, and the rain isn't ruining it even a bit. I took a picture of the room right after I stepped in, and updated my website with a contact page.

In the middle of the day, I got a high-end Kisses from Mr. Brown, and these surely complete my day! Even in this digital days, while enjoying the glory of digital photography, I still want to grasp my works in the touchable realm called prints :)

I just add a 300mm f/4 to my gear line. It will help me shooting far away in ceremonies with long aisle. Bought it used at Citizens Photo and am loving it! No more space in my bags now...

It's Friday, Jan. 23 at 14:00... just came back from testing the lens, shooting Mt.Hood from Mt.Tabor. So glad to find a couple of birds on their honeymoon :)
This might actually be my first time shooting landscape! What do you think?

A moment ago I just received a membership acceptance email from the Artistic Guild chapter of the Wedding Photojournalist Association called [AG]WPJA. Yay... I feel very grateful, I'm going to the next level!

Arctic Blast

The Arctic Blast happening in PDX has outdated "I'm Dreaming of A White Christmas" song early, not to mention the chaos singing "Let It Snow" may cause. KATU News stated the winter storm as the worst since 1968, leading us to 19F. Under the limitations, I started shooting around the neighborhood from Ventura Park up to the Rocky Butte, got fired up taking some extra miles to the suspended Washington Park & Pittock Mansion area, then finally curious enough to check out Downtown and even the airport. Thanks to my tire chains, MAX and my beltpack! Here are some favorites from the 7-day coverage ...
